Meet the new way to find local LGBTQ+ sports leagues near you. A growing resource to connect people to a number of sports leagues of their interest.
What is even USGSN? It is the United States Gay Sports Network. It was originally created in 2010 with a focus on sports leagues and their schedules. However, it changed its direction to now focus on LGBTQ+ sports leagues and connect people to local leagues. The website allows communities to platform their local leagues to bring both attention and people to them. As the only LGBTQ+ Sports Network, they have a goal to feature all LGBTQ+ sports leagues across the United States.
The network was started by Tyler Foerster. A sports fanatic who was looking for a way to bring a platform and offer updates about sports leagues that didn’t have the means to have a website to host them. His website further grew when he started to seek a welcoming and accepting sports community. As someone who experienced discrimination in a sports league, he was a part of, it became Tyler's passion to make sure people don’t have to go through what he went through. So he created a resource for an LGBTQ+ community space and continues building that space by developing a network of leagues and tournaments that are easy to find and take part in.
The United States Gay Sports Network continues to grow. You can find a league locally on the website which now includes leagues in 40 states and 80 cities. It has grown to show 690 leagues all of which you are free to discover. You can either search by region, state, or sport to help you connect with an LGBTQ+ league and help you discover a new community. Although the network is always looking to grow its leagues, as of now they currently feature sports such as basketball, bowling, flag football, golf, hockey, and many more. The network includes not only local leagues but also national leagues such as the National Gay Basketball Association, International Gay Bowling Organization, and many more along with a growing list of various LGBTQ+ tournaments in the United States with the network featuring leagues for numerous different sports. From here, you can see all the upcoming tournaments for this year. You can get connected right away to the tournament and then be shown all the information you would need to sign up.
As a network focused on connecting people to LGBTQ+ sports leagues and tournaments, they want to increase their network in any way they can. To both grow their network and offer more opportunities to help people find sports communities, they encourage people to connect to add to the network. Team members or leaders are encouraged to reach out to USGSN so their sports league can be featured and given a platform to be shown to more eyes.
