Author: Kari Jackson
The Minnesota Timberwolves have been playing exceptionally well this season and are crushing it in the playoffs. Their hard work has brought them into the semifinals and has built up immense excitement. Minnesota sports fans have not had the best of luck with their home team leagues, so this achievement has been a long-awaited win. This is the second time in history that the Timberwolves have made it to the semifinals, the last being in 2004. This twenty-year dry spell has been broken, and they are giving it their all.
The Wolves crushed it in the first round against the Phoenix Suns, ending with a 4-0 win in the tournament. All eyes have been on star player Anthony Edwards this season as he has repeatedly showcased his impeccable talent. In the final game of the first round against the Suns, Edwards was the top scorer, earning 40 points. Karl-Anthony Towns wasn’t far behind with his 28-point addition. The Wolves came out strong with a 122-116 final score in the fourth game of the first round. This win sent them to the semifinals, where they are now crushing it once again.
In the semifinals, the Timberwolves are playing against the Denver Nuggets. Last year, the Wolves lost to the Nuggets in the first round of the playoffs 4-1. The Nuggets then went on to win it all and gain their first-ever NBA championship. This year, however, the odds are not leaning in their favor. The Timberwolves are giving it their all and proving their dominance. The Wolves have a 2-0 lead and show no signs of stopping. These games have been fun to watch due to the immense talent on the teams. The Timberwolves with star players Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns, and the Nuggets with the basketball prodigy Nikola Jokić. The rivalry isn’t over yet, but the Wolves only need two more wins to gain a spot in the finals. If they can clinch this win against the Nuggets, they will play either the Dallas Mavericks or the Oklahoma Thunder. The Thunder has the same winning record as the Nuggets, coming in at 69%. They also have not yet lost in the playoffs this year, which makes them a fierce competitor for the Wolves.
Not only are the Timberwolves great at basketball, but they are also an ally of the LGBTQ+ community.
This year, their pride night recognized local LGBTQ+ organizations, had festive in-game entertainment, and featured a limited-edition Pride t-shirt. The on-court entertainment was performed by members of the LGBTQ+ community and highlighted the importance of inclusion. They also gave away 500 tickets to local LGBTQ+ organizations and encouraged fans to learn more about their messages. The Minnesota Fastbreak Foundation, one of the Timberwolves philanthropy organizations, donated $15,000 to Twin Cities Pride during halftime. The Wolves are not only immensely talented, but they also make sure to give back to their community.
Go Wolves!
